Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India: The state’s Information Technology Minister, Nara Lokesh, will also inaugurate Cognizant’s temporary facility, which is designed to house around 1,000 employees.
Earlier in June, Lokesh announced that Cognizant would establish a large-scale development centre in Visakhapatnam with an investment of ₹1,583 crore. The project is planned across a 22-acre site at Kapuluppada IT Hills and is expected to generate nearly 8,000 jobs in three stages.
According to Lokesh, the government cleared the proposal to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position as an emerging global technology destination and to encourage digital skill development in tier-2 locations.
Cognizant is scheduled to start its operations in early 2026 from a temporary office located at the Mahati Fintech Building in Rushikonda IT Park, Hill-2. This interim space will support up to 800 employees until Phase-I of the permanent campus becomes operational by early 2029. The new centre will focus on cutting-edge fields including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cloud Technologies, and Digital Engineering.
Lokesh previously stated that Cognizant’s expansion will significantly support the region’s digital ecosystem, improve technical talent, and take advantage of Andhra Pradesh’s robust infrastructure, investor-friendly policies, and the state’s active support for the IT and IT-enabled services (ITES) sectors.
