Arvind Kejriwal's Rajya Sabha Entry Likely as AAP Fields Sanjeev Arora for Ludhiana West By-Election

Arvind Kejriwal's Rajya Sabha Entry Likely as AAP Fields Sanjeev Arora

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially announced Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora as its candidate for the Ludhiana West by-election in Punjab. This election was necessitated by the demise of sitting MLA Gurpreet Gogi. Initially, there were speculations that Arvind Kejriwal wanted to enter Punjab politics through this seat and become the Chief Minister, but he reportedly withdrew as Punjabis were unwilling to accept an outsider.

With Sanjeev Arora contesting the by-election, his Rajya Sabha seat will become vacant, leading to a by-election for the Rajya Sabha position. Reports suggest that Kejriwal may use this opportunity to enter the Rajya Sabha, an allegation also made by Punjab Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa. If everything goes as planned, Kejriwal is likely to enter the Upper House soon. Sanjeev Arora’s current Rajya Sabha tenure is set to end in 2028.

Meanwhile, in the Delhi Assembly elections, AAP faced a major defeat, winning only 22 out of 70 seats, while the BJP secured 48 seats. Key leaders like Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia lost, but Atishi managed to win by a narrow margin. Rekha Gupta has now taken over as the Chief Minister of Delhi.
