Back-to-Back Earthquakes Jolt Manipur

Imphal: Two earthquakes struck Manipur within an hour, causing tremors across several northeastern states. The first quake, measuring 5.7 in magnitude, occurred at 11:06 AM on Wednesday. The regional seismic center in Shillong reported that the epicenter was 44 km east of Yairipok in Imphal East district, at a depth of 110 km. The tremors were also felt in Assam, Meghalaya, and other northeastern regions.

An hour later, at 12:20 PM, a second earthquake of magnitude 4.1 was recorded. Officials stated that the epicenter was located at a depth of 66 km in Kamjong district. Several buildings in Manipur developed cracks due to the impact of the tremors.Meanwhile, authorities reported that a school building used as a relief camp for ethnic violence victims in Wangjing Lamding, Thoubal district, also sustained cracks. Officials are currently assessing the damage caused by the two earthquakes.
