CBI Raids Ex-CM Bhupesh Baghel Over Mahadev Betting App
Former Chhattisgarh CM and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel is facing mounting legal troubles. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had already conducted raids at his residence in connection with the liquor scam. Now, the CBI has launched raids at his home in Raipur and Bhilai, along with the residences of his relatives and close associates, as part of an investigation into the Mahadev betting app case.
Allegations suggest that Bhupesh Baghel received ₹508 crore in kickbacks from the promoters of the Mahadev betting app. Shubham Soni, believed to be the app’s owner, admitted to the crime and revealed his financial dealings with Baghel, including the transfer of hundreds of crores. Following these claims, the ED had already started its investigation into the matter.
Additionally, in the liquor scam case, Bhupesh Baghel and his son Chaitanya Baghel faced ED raids over money laundering allegations. Raids were conducted at 14 locations, including the residences of Chaitanya’s friends and family, resulting in the seizure of ₹30 lakh in cash, documents, and electronic gadgets. The ED has also summoned Chaitanya Baghel for questioning, alleging that the liquor scam caused huge losses to the state treasury while generating profits of over ₹21,000 crore for the liquor syndicate.
