Congress announces support to Vijay’s TVK for Tamil Nadu government formation
Chennai: The Indian National Congress has officially announced its support for actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the process of forming the government in Tamil Nadu. The announcement was made through an official statement issued by AICC Tamil Nadu in-charge Girish Chodankar.
According to Chodankar, the primary objective behind extending support to TVK is to ensure that communal forces remain away from governance and to establish a secular, progressive, and welfare-oriented administration in the state.
He stated that the people of Tamil Nadu have given a mandate for inclusive governance based on constitutional values and social justice. Chodankar further confirmed that Congress would continue to work alongside TVK not only during the formation of the government but also in upcoming local body, Lok Sabha, and Rajya Sabha elections.
In its official statement, the Congress party said that TVK president Vijay had formally requested support from the Indian National Congress for government formation. Following discussions, both the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee and the Congress Legislature Party unanimously decided to extend full support to TVK.
The Congress also emphasized that TVK should not align with communal forces or parties that do not uphold the Constitution of India. The party clarified that its support is based on this condition.
The statement further noted that the alliance would remain committed to the ideals of social justice and the constitutional principles championed by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Congress leaders expressed confidence that the alliance between TVK and Congress would work towards reviving the governance model associated with former leader K. Kamaraj in Tamil Nadu.
The development is being viewed as a significant shift in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, opening the door for new alliance equations ahead of future elections.
