India has reported a slight rise in Covid-19 cases, especially in Kerala and Odisha. As of May 19, 2025, there are 257 active cases nationwide. Kerala recorded 182 cases in May, mainly in Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Thiruvananthapuram. Health Minister Veena George urged caution, citing new Omicron variants with high transmission but low severity.

Odisha reported its first case in 2.5 years; the patient is stable but has comorbidities. Maharashtra confirmed two Covid-linked deaths since January, both involving patients with serious health issues.
