Om Prakash Chautala, Ex-Haryana CM, Dies After Cardiac Arrest
Former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala passed away on December 20 in Gurugram at the age of 89 after suffering a cardiac arrest, as confirmed by a party spokesperson. Chautala, the supremo of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), had last been seen during the Haryana Assembly elections on October 5.
The son of former Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhary Devi Lal, Om Prakash Chautala served as Haryana's Chief Minister multiple times, first from 1989 to 1990 and again from 1999 to 2005. Chautala had also faced legal challenges, including a jail sentence in 2022 for a disproportionate assets case, though he was released in 2020.
He is survived by his sons Abhay Singh Chautala and Ajay Singh Chautala, and his grandson, Dushyant Chautala, who serves as Haryana's Deputy Chief Minister.
