HAU Scholarship Protest Turns Violent, 20 Students Injured

HAU Scholarship Row: 20 Students Injured in Clash with Guards, Professors

A protest at Haryana Agricultural University over revised scholarship rules turned violent when security guards and professors used batons on students who had surrounded the Vice Chancellor’s residence. At least 20 students, including Deepanshu, Chaksu, and Mohit, were injured—some with head wounds.

The unrest began after the university changed its scholarship policy from awarding all students with a CGPA above 7.5 to only the top 25% performers. A failed meeting with the administration escalated tensions, leading to a confrontation with guards and a viral video of students being beaten. More students joined, resulting in a second lathi charge.

The administration claimed students assaulted the guards. Delhi University Student Union President Raunak Khatri condemned the incident online, with Congress MP Deepender Hooda amplifying the post.
