Health Insurance Update: Ayushman Bharat Coverage Raised to ₹10 Lakh — Application Details

New Delhi, India: The Government of India has expanded the benefits offered under the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY). The health insurance limit, which previously provided coverage of ₹5 lakh per family, has now been doubled to ₹10 lakh. This upgrade aims to ensure better medical support for economically weaker sections and the middle class, giving them access to treatment worth up to ₹10 lakh at no cost.

New Delhi: The central government has officially increased the PM-JAY insurance coverage to enhance healthcare access across the country. Until now, families were eligible for ₹5 lakh insurance under the scheme. With the new revision, qualified households can receive up to ₹10 lakh in health coverage. This extended benefit particularly supports senior citizens, with the eligibility age set at 70 years and above as per Aadhaar records.

Key Features of the PM-JAY Scheme

PM-JAY has been created to support low-income and middle-income families by providing cashless and paperless medical services in both private and government hospitals nationwide. Under the newly revised plan, families will now be entitled to a total of ₹10 lakh in health insurance.

All existing medical conditions are covered from the very first day, allowing families with long-term health issues to access complete coverage. The scheme has no restrictions based on age or gender.

Senior citizens aged above 70 years will receive an additional ₹5 lakh insurance benefit on top of the family's regular coverage. This raises the total available insurance to ₹10 lakh per family. Individuals aged 70 or older, as verified through their Aadhaar card, are eligible for this enhanced protection.
