IIT Guwahati student death
The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-Guwahati) has asked journalists and reporters to avoid visiting the campus following the tragic death of a 21-year-old student, Bimalesh Kumar. Kumar, a third-year BTech student in Computer Science and Engineering, reportedly died by suicide in his hostel room on Monday. His death has sparked significant protests from students, who are criticizing the institute's strict attendance policies and high academic pressures.
In response to the unrest, the institute has restricted media access to manage the situation more sensitively. IIT-Guwahati has issued a statement indicating that the issue is being addressed with high priority and has promised that media representatives will soon be invited to meet with the director. The statement emphasizes that the current media restriction is a measure to handle the situation carefully and assures that a meeting with the director will be scheduled in the near future.
