IIT Guwahati is taking steps to address student safety following the recent death of a third-year BTech student. The Director, Prof. Devendra Jalihal, has stated that a decision regarding the Dean's resignation is pending and reassured that student well-being remains a top priority.
The student, from Uttar Pradesh, was found dead in his hostel room. The circumstances are under investigation, and this incident has led to protests from students, who are demanding action from the Dean and Director. Prof. Jalihal has met with students to discuss their concerns and is committed to addressing them.
In response to the situation, IIT Guwahati will expand its well-being services, introduce peer support groups, and review safety and emergency protocols. The Director has urged students to focus on their studies and use available support resources while the institute works on improving campus safety.
