IMD Forecasts Light to Moderate Rainfall in Himachal Pradesh

IMD Rainfall Forecast Himachal Pradesh

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light to moderate rainfall across several districts in Himachal Pradesh, including Bilaspur, Una, Harimpur, Solan, and Kangra. These areas are expected to experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Additionally, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Solan are anticipated to receive light rainfall over the next two to three hours.

In a broader context, the IMD has issued a red alert for Odisha due to heavy to extremely heavy rainfall resulting from a deep depression that has intensified in the northwest and west-central Bay of Bengal. The depression is expected to make landfall near Puri within the next three hours. The red alert covers districts such as Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khordha, Boudh, Balangir, Puri, and Malkangiri, with extremely heavy to very heavy rainfall predicted for the next 24 hours. Malkangiri has already recorded significant rainfall, totaling 253 mm in the past 24 hours, raising concerns about potential landslides and flooding. Fishermen are advised to stay away from deep-sea areas until September 11, and maritime ports have been issued a local cautionary signal number 3.

The IMD's seasonal cumulative rainfall update shows that Odisha has received 908.6 mm of rainfall from June 1 to September 9, which is below the normal value of 1001.1 mm. The state's rainfall distribution includes one district with large excess, 17 districts with normal rainfall, and 12 districts with deficient rainfall.
