JD(U) Withdraws Support From BJP Government in Manipur

JD U withdraws support from BJP Manipur

Janata Dal (United) led by Nitish Kumar has formally withdrawn its support from the BJP-led government in Manipur. The announcement was made through an official letter issued by the party's Manipur unit president, Kshetrimayum Biren Singh. The letter stated that JD(U) no longer supports the BJP government, and its lone MLA, Md. Abdul Nasir will now be treated as an opposition member in the state assembly.

The letter also mentioned the defection of five JD(U) MLAs to the BJP after the 2022 Manipur Assembly elections, with the trial for their defection pending. Following JD(U)’s involvement in the INDIA alliance, the party decided to end its support for the BJP government, and this was communicated to the Governor, Chief Minister, and Speaker. Md. Abdul Nasir's seating was shifted to the opposition bench in the last assembly session.
