Kerala Nuns Bail Denied in Chhattisgarh Conversion Case

Despite repeated pleas, two Kerala nuns continue to be held in Durg jail as the court directed that only a special NIA court in Bilaspur has jurisdiction over their case. They were arrested on July 25 for alleged trafficking and forced conversion of three tribal women.

CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat called the arrests unconstitutional and part of a political agenda, alleging the victims were coerced by Bajrang Dal activists.

A UDF delegation also met the nuns, while Chhattisgarh CM promised a fair probe, insisting the case involves an attempted conversion under the guise of job training.
