The Mahakumbh Mela 2025, which started on January 13, has witnessed huge crowds at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj. On day 3, over 35 million devotees took part in the first ‘Amrit Snan’ on Makar Sankranti. Naga sadhus from the Shri Panchayati Niranjani Akhada led the ceremony. The event is expected to continue attracting millions, with key bathing dates like Mauni Amavasya (Jan 29) and Maha Shivaratri (Feb 26) still ahead.
The Mela, running until February 26, has been hailed for its excellent management, with CM Yogi Adityanath thanking various departments for their efforts. The massive gathering has also prompted the closure of schools in Prayagraj on January 15 due to traffic congestion.
The Mahakumbh Mela is set to be one of the largest gatherings in the world, with 450 million attendees expected to participate over the next 45 days.
