Mahuri Mahotsav Ganjam
The two-day 'Mahuri Mahotsav' in Berhampur showcased the rich folk art forms of Ganjam, with over 200 artists performing traditional music and dance. Held for the first time, the festival featured performances by eight groups, including Danda Nata, Kothisala, Daskathia, Dholia, Mrudanga, and Bagha Nata. A highlight was an 8-year-old boy performing the tiger dance. The stage was decorated to honor the 'Budhi Thakurani,' with a procession bringing her 'Aagyanmala' to the venue.
Five individuals were honored for their contributions to culture, drama, literature, journalism, and the arts. The festival also included competitions in traditional crafts, drawing, essay writing, and Odissi.
