Massive Blast at Nowgam Police Station in JK

SRINAGAR, J&K, India: A powerful explosion occurred at the Nowgam police station in Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of nine individuals and injuries to 25 others. According to officials, those who lost their lives included police staff and members of the forensic team.

The incident happened at around 11:22 p.m. on Friday while personnel were examining explosive materials that had been recovered during an investigation into a recent terror-related case in Faridabad. The blast triggered a massive fire, sending thick smoke into the area and causing parts of the building to collapse. Several people were trapped under the debris as rescue teams rushed to the scene to pull out survivors. Locals reported that body parts were found as far as 300 meters from the explosion site, and many vehicles parked inside the station were burned.

Prior to this, police teams from Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir had searched a residence in Faridabad, where they had seized about 360 kg of explosive material along with other weapons. These items were brought to the Nowgam police station for examination. Officials confirmed that the explosion occurred during the sample-collection process. The bodies recovered from the site have been moved to the police control room in Srinagar, and identification is still under way.

The police station building suffered extensive damage due to the force of the explosion. Ongoing rescue efforts faced delays because of smaller secondary blasts at the site. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the explosion, and an official statement from the Jammu and Kashmir Police is awaited.
