Mumbai's First Underground Metro: Launch Details

New Project Unveiling: Mumbai is set to unveil its first underground metro rail, marking a milestone for the city.

Launch Date: The underground metro rail will be inaugurated on July 24, as announced by BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde.

Project Details:

Length: The metro covers 33.5 kilometers.

Cost: The project is estimated at ₹23,136 crore.

Capacity: It will serve approximately 1.7 million passengers daily.

Route and Stations: The underground metro will have stops at various key locations including Aarey Colony, SEEPZ, MIDC, Marol Naka, CSMIA T2, Sahar Road, CSMIA T1, Santacruz, Vidyanagari, BKC, Dharavi, Siddhivinayak Temple, Worli, Science Museum, Mahalakshmi, Mumbai Central, Girgaum, Kalbadevi, CST, Hutatma Chowk, Churchgate, Vidhan Bhavan, and Cuffe Parade.

Funding:

Primary Source: The majority of funding (57.2%) comes from Japan's International Cooperation Agency (JICA) ODA loan, amounting to ₹13,235 crore.

Repayment: The loan has a 30-year repayment period with an interest rate of 1.15%.

Special Features:

Mobile Services: Continuous mobile services will be available.

Passenger Capacity: Each train can accommodate 3,000 passengers.

Current Status: Trials have been completed, and the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will conduct inspections soon.
