Mamata Banerjee Announces Rs 10 Lakh Aid for Murshidabad Riot Victims' Families
West Bengal has been witnessing intense unrest in recent days, with large-scale protests by Muslims against the Waqf Act. The violence has led to the deaths of three individuals, with several others injured. The situation remains tense, with protesters clashing with police, setting vehicles on fire, and causing widespread chaos.
In response to the violence, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the three victims in Murshidabad. Hundreds of Hindu families have also been displaced, and over 150 protesters have been arrested by the authorities.
Despite Mamata's previous declaration that the Waqf Act would not be enforced in the state, the riots persist. To restore peace, Mamata has called for an emergency meeting with Muslim clerics, imams, and intellectuals at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. Senior TMC leader and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim will lead the discussions aimed at fostering dialogue and reconciliation among the community.
