This attack follows the deaths of five Naxalites in a clash with security forces in Bastar. The encounter took place on Saturday evening in a forest area along the Narayanpur-Dantewada district border. Four Naxalites were initially found dead, and one more body was recovered later. DRG Head Constable Sannu Karam was also killed during the operation.

The anti-Naxal operation was led by the STF, in coordination with DRG teams from several districts, and was focused on the South Abujhmaad forest area. Before this, three Naxalites were killed in a separate encounter in Chhattisgarh's Gariaband district on Friday, where weapons were also seized.
