The stampede occurred early Wednesday during the 'Amrit Snan' on Mauni Amavasya when the crowd broke barricades near the Sangam. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath confirmed the incident and assured that the injured had been taken to hospitals for treatment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also offered condolences and said the local administration was providing aid to the victims. He stated that he was in constant contact with CM Yogi Adityanath to support the response efforts.
