Amaravati declared sole capital of Andhra Pradesh after Parliament passes bill
India’s Parliament has taken a significant step in resolving Andhra Pradesh’s capital status by passing the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha. The legislation formally designates Amaravati as the sole and permanent capital of the state.
Following its approval in the lower house, the bill has now progressed to the Rajya Sabha for further consideration. The move marks a crucial development in the state’s administrative framework and is expected to bring clarity to long-standing discussions surrounding the capital issue.
In response to the parliamentary decision, Andhra Pradesh IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh, along with Members of Parliament from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi.
During the meeting, the delegation expressed their appreciation for the central government’s support and the passage of the bill, describing it as a landmark moment for the state’s governance and development trajectory.
