PM Modi Responds to Gujarat Bridge Collapse, Announces Compensation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced deep concern over the sudden collapse of the Gambhira bridge spanning the Mahisagar river in Gujarat’s Vadodara district. He offered condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
An ex gratia of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured has been announced under the PMNRF, as posted on X.
The 45-year-old bridge, linking Vadodara and Anand, collapsed on Wednesday morning, causing several vehicles to plunge into the river and resulting in nine deaths. Locals claim the bridge had been in poor condition for years.
Rescue operations are ongoing with NDRF and fire department teams at the site. Authorities have initiated a probe into the incident, and traffic has been rerouted through alternative roads to ensure public safety.
