Kolkata, West Bengal, India: Prasoon Mukherjee, an NRI industrialist originally from Kolkata, has been appointed to head the India operations of the Singapore Enterprise Centre (SEC). The centre was launched by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) to strengthen trade ties, investment opportunities and industrial cooperation between Singapore and India. Mukherjee is also the chairman of Universal Success Enterprises (USEL).
SBF, which represents around 32,000 Singapore-based companies, is exploring business prospects in Kolkata and several other regions across India. Supported by Enterprise Singapore, a government agency, SEC India has recently opened its first office in Bengaluru to manage its national operations.
Mukherjee, who recently met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss boosting bilateral business engagement, said the SEC plans to expand further by setting up additional offices, including one in Kolkata.
According to him, Singapore companies will be able to tap into reliable market insights, regulatory assistance and business support services in India through the federation’s initiatives. Highlighting his roots, Mukherjee noted that he intends to encourage greater Singaporean investment in West Bengal, while also helping Bengal-based businesses build partnerships with companies in Singapore.
He said potential collaboration could grow in sectors such as advanced manufacturing, precision engineering, semiconductor technology, consumer goods, financial technology, services and innovation-driven industries.
Mukherjee added that SBF is working closely with central and state bodies in India to align its programmes with national development priorities. This, he said, will create a smoother and more efficient ecosystem for cross-border business and investment between the two countries. Prime Minister Modi has also urged the federation to bring more Singapore enterprises into India’s trade and commerce network.
Meanwhile, USEL is advancing several major projects in India, including logistics parks in West Bengal, Assam and Uttar Pradesh, a data centre in Bengal and a 500 MW solar project in Gujarat, along with various other developments.
