Puducherry Police Uncover Senior Citizen Scam Surge

Puducherry senior citizen scam

Puducherry Police have filed 50 cases related to scams targeting senior citizens. Scammers, pretending to be bank officials, have been contacting seniors to update their KYC, Aadhaar, bank details, and PAN numbers. The police have warned seniors not to share OTPs, as these are being used to steal money. They emphasized that banks will never ask for sensitive information over the phone.

Additionally, the police highlighted an increase in other cybercrimes, such as fake job offers, arrest threats, SIM card blocking warnings, and fraudulent investment schemes. They also cautioned Sabarimala pilgrims from Puducherry about scammers claiming to offer government insurance schemes for the pilgrimage. The police clarified that no such fees are required and urged the public to contact the Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 for assistance.
