Farmers protest Punjab
Farmers in Punjab staged a bandh on Monday, blocking roads across the state in protest against the Centre's refusal to meet their demands. The bandh, from 7 am to 4 pm, caused significant traffic disruptions, including at Dhareri Jattan Toll Plaza, Amritsar's Golden Gate, and Bathinda's Rampura Phul.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher assured emergency services would remain operational. Meanwhile, 70-year-old Jagjit Singh Dallewal, on a hunger strike for 35 days, continues to demand a legal guarantee for minimum support prices (MSP) for crops. The farmers are also calling for debt waivers, pensions, and justice for victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
The protests, ongoing since February, have involved farmers camped at the Punjab-Haryana border after their Delhi march was blocked by security forces.
