Sinjauli mosque controversy Shimla
In Shimla, tensions have escalated over the Sinjauli mosque, prompting a Muslim welfare committee to take action. On Thursday, the committee, which includes the mosque's Imam, members of the Waqf board, and the mosque management committee, requested Municipal Commissioner Bhupendra Attri to seal the unauthorized part of the mosque and offered to demolish it in compliance with a court order. The committee emphasized that this action aims to maintain harmony and brotherhood among the community, asserting that Muslims in the area are long-term residents of Himachal Pradesh.
The Imam of the mosque confirmed that there was no external pressure influencing this decision, expressing a desire for peaceful coexistence. The municipal commissioner acknowledged receipt of the request. The move was positively received by the Dev Bhoomi Sangarh Committee, who had previously protested against the unauthorized construction. They expressed support for the Muslim community's initiative, highlighting it as a step taken in the broader interest of communal harmony.
Hindu organizations had recently called for the demolition of the disputed mosque structure and demanded the registration of outsiders entering the state. This led to a bandh in Sanjauli and protests near the Vidhan Sabha, reflecting the ongoing controversy surrounding the mosque's construction. The issue of the unauthorized construction is currently under judicial review by the municipal corporation's court.
