Identified as Gurvinder Singh, Virender Singh alias Ravi, and Jaspreet Singh alias Pratap Singh, the terrorists had hurled grenades and bombs at the Gurdaspur police station. Acting on a tip-off from Punjab Police, a joint operation with UP Police was launched in the Puranpur area. During the operation, the suspects opened fire, leading to a gunfight in which they were critically injured and later declared dead at the hospital.

The encounter resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, two Glock pistols, and ammunition. Two constables, Sumit and Shahnawaz, sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.
