heavy rains in 18 states
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rains in 18 states, including Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, until the 8th of this month. These regions are anticipated to face intense to extremely heavy rainfall.
In addition, heavy rains are forecasted for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, Sikkim, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh.
Recent heavy rains have already caused significant damage: Andhra Pradesh has reported 20 fatalities and 65,000 damaged houses. Relief efforts are underway, with helicopters and drones delivering food and supplies. Many film celebrities have pledged substantial donations to aid the flood victims.
In Nagaland, heavy rains have triggered landslides, disrupting traffic between the capital, Kohima, and Dimapur. Six people, including a woman, have died, and four are missing. Additionally, landslides have stranded around 300 devotees on the Badrinath highway, affecting their journey to Badrinath Dham and Hemakund Sahib.
