Paris 2024: Indian men's 4x400m relay team qualifies for Olympics

The Indian men's and women's 4x400m relay teams qualified for the Paris Olympics by finishing second in their second round heat at the World Athletics Relays held on Monday. In the women's category, the team of Rupal Chaudhary, MR Poovamma, Jyothika Sri Dandi and Subha Venkatesan finished the race in 3 minutes 29.35 seconds and booked the Paris Games ticket after Jamaica (3:28.54 seconds) in heat number one.

The men's team of Mohammad Anas Yahia, Mohammad Ajmal, Arokia Rajeev and Amoz Jacob finished second behind America (2:59.95) with a collective timing of 3 minutes 3.23 seconds. In the second round, the top two teams in the three heats are to qualify for the Olympics to be held from July 26 to August 11. In the first round qualifying heat held on Sunday, the Indian women's team reached the target in 3 minutes 29.74 seconds and finished fifth.

The men's team failed in the first round qualifying heat as the second leg runner Rajesh Ramesh withdrew midway due to a cramp. India currently has 19 track and field athletes from Paris, and defending javelin throw champion Neeraj Chopra is also included in this list. Athletics competitions will start from August 1.
