Australia social media age limit 2024
Australia's new Social Media Minimum Age bill bans platforms like TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram from allowing users under 16, drawing criticism from social media companies. Meta, Snapchat, and TikTok raised concerns about the rushed legislation, with TikTok warning it could push young users to unsafe parts of the internet. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese defended the law, stressing its importance for children's safety. The law, which includes fines for non-compliant platforms, will start a trial in January and take full effect in a year. Other countries are closely monitoring Australia's move.
