NASA had planned to return the empty Starliner to Earth
Just days after NASA officially confirmed that Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams will return to Earth aboard SpaceX’s Dragon capsule in 2025, new issues with Boeing’s Starliner have emerged. This situation further underscores NASA’s decision to rely on the proven Crew Dragon capsule for astronaut safety.
According to Ars Technica, astronaut Barry Wilmore reported a concerning issue to Mission Control at Johnson Space Center in Houston I’ve got a question about Starliner. There’s a strange noise coming through the speaker.
I don’t know what’s making it. Wilmore noticed this unusual sound while floating inside the Starliner, describing it as a “pulsing noise, almost like a sonar ping. Meteorologist Rob Dale has shared the recorded audio of the noise.
While astronauts frequently report such anomalies, they typically do not have a significant impact on the spacecraft’s functionality.
Currently, there is limited information on the cause of the pulsing noise from the Starliner speaker, and mission control is working to identify the source.
