Apple’s New ‘iPhone Pocket’ Draws Online Mockery: “$230 for a Sock?”
Cupertino, California, USA: Apple has introduced a new limited-edition accessory named iPhone Pocket, and it’s quickly become a trending topic online — but not for the reasons the company might have hoped.
The product, available in two styles — a short-strap version for $149.95 and a long-strap version for $229.95 — has sparked widespread ridicule on social media, with users comparing it to an overpriced sock.
Internet Reactions Flood In
Social media users wasted no time in poking fun at the new release.
One person wrote, “Apple’s selling a sock for $230 — unreal!” Another joked, “Apple unveils iPhone Pocket, the luxury iPhone sock nobody asked for.”
A third comment read, “Only Apple fans would spend $230 on what looks like a cut-up gym sock.” Someone else quipped, “iPhone Pocket: $150. Regular sock: $0.15.”
Memes mocking the design have also gone viral, with many adding googly eyes or funny edits to the product image.
Details About the iPhone Pocket
The iPhone Pocket is a result of a collaboration between Apple and the Japanese fashion brand ISSEY MIYAKE. The item is described as a “3D-knitted structure made to fit any iPhone,” inspired by the simplicity of a single piece of fabric.
Crafted in Japan, the design merges minimalism with functionality. The short-strap variant comes in eight colours — lemon, mandarin, purple, pink, peacock, sapphire, cinnamon, and black — while the long-strap version is available in sapphire, cinnamon, and black.
Yoshiyuki Miyamae, Design Director at MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO, explained that the concept focuses on “the emotional connection between the iPhone and its owner,” and celebrates “the joy of wearing your iPhone in your own way.”
He added that the design follows ISSEY MIYAKE’s philosophy of leaving designs “open-ended for personal interpretation and creativity.”
