World Fastest Train: China CR450 High-Speed Train Reaches Record

CR450 Train Reaches 450 km/h, Sets New World Record

Shanghai, Chaina:  China continues to lead the world in high-speed rail innovation with the successful trial of its next-generation train, the CR450, now recognized as the world’s fastest. The train, currently in its testing phase, recently achieved a record-breaking 450 km/h during a live trial on real tracks.

In earlier experimental conditions, the CR450 reportedly reached a remarkable 896 km/h, although that test was conducted under simulated settings. The official track test, carried out on the Shanghai–Changqing–Chengdu High-Speed Railway, confirmed the CR450’s operational capability at 450 km/h — setting a new global benchmark.

The CR450 prototype was completed in November 2024, followed by a series of developmental and performance tests. Engineers are now conducting advanced trials to evaluate the train’s stability and endurance. Over the coming months, the train will undergo extensive monitoring, covering nearly 600,000 kilometers before it is cleared for commercial use — expected by 2026.

The ‘CR’ in its name stands for China Railway. The CR450 replaces the CR400, which previously held the title of the fastest conventional train. Remarkably, the CR450’s performance even surpasses Japan’s world-renowned maglev trains in terms of top trial speeds. Engineers have refined the CR400’s design, reducing weight and improving aerodynamics to reach these new speeds.

World’s Fastest Trains (Top Speeds)

China CR450 – Over 800 km/h (experimental), 450 km/h (on-track)

China Shanghai Maglev – 501 km/h

China CR380 – 486 km/h

China CR (Fuxing series) – 420 km/h

Germany DB ICE – 350 km/h

China now holds the top position in global high-speed rail technology, reinforcing its dominance in railway innovation and infrastructure development.
