Ahmedabad Plane Crash: Death Toll Rises To 274, One Survivor

Air India plane crash

Air India flight AI 171 crashed after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing 274 people, including passengers, crew, and locals. Only one person, a UK national of Indian origin, survived. The plane hit the BJ Medical College housing, killing doctors and injuring 24 students.

Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani also died. Before the crash, the pilot issued a distress ‘Mayday’ signal, indicating a critical emergency. Initial findings hint at engine failure or a possible bird strike as likely triggers of the crash.

The aircraft’s black box has been retrieved and will play a key role in uncovering the exact sequence of events. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the crash site and met with the injured and the lone survivor.
