China Struggling Population Decline

The Chinese government is worried as the marriage and birth rates in the country are dropping significantly. It says that there should be a change in the youth. China's birth rate fell to a 60-year low last year. The number of marriage registrations also decreased. Only 68.3 lakh marriages were registered in 2023. It is noteworthy that this is the lowest since 1983. China's youth, who are witnessing the declining economy and rising unemployment, are also conflicted about following traditions. The country's leadership thinks that marriage in China is seen as an unfair system. It is going to become very dangerous.

According to the official statistics of 2021, there are about 24 crore youths above 15 years of age in China. In a recent survey, it was revealed that about 44 percent of young women are not ready to get married. The average age of marriage in China was 24 in 2010 and has now risen to 29. The rise in the average age of marriage for men from 30 to 29 for women is worrying the Chinese government. The single lifestyle is becoming more widespread in China. Many women on Instagram are posting with the hashtag "No Marriage, No Child" and they are getting thousands of likes. A study has revealed that men's lack of proper knowledge about child rearing is the main reason why young women in China do not marry.
