Vijay TVK Rally in Thanjavur: Actor-politician Vijay, founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), addressed party functionaries and supporters during a public meeting in Thanjavur district on Wednesday (March 4) as part of his political campaign.

According to reports from news agency PTI, five supporters sustained injuries after a collision involving several vehicles that were following Vijay’s convoy on the way to the rally venue.

Accident Near Rally Venue

Police officials said that a large number of Vijay’s supporters followed his convoy from Tiruchirappalli airport to the TVK meeting venue at Ayyasamipatti in Sengipatti village.

As the actor-politician’s vehicle approached the rally location, three students riding separate motorcycles reportedly accelerated in an attempt to move closer to the convoy. In the process, their motorcycles collided with each other, resulting in injuries. Police confirmed that one of the students sustained serious injuries.

In a separate incident, two other individuals were injured while returning home after attending the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam meeting. Authorities said all the injured persons were admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

Vijay’s Message at the Rally

During his speech, Vijay addressed party workers from eight Assembly constituencies and appealed to the people of Tamil Nadu to support him in the upcoming elections.

He said the election might appear ordinary to others but described it as deeply emotional for him and his supporters. Vijay also emphasised that politics should be about serving people rather than accumulating wealth.

The TVK leader announced several promises aimed at supporting farmers and rural communities. His proposals included a complete waiver of loans for farmers owning up to five acres of land and financial support for the education of farmers’ children. He also highlighted commitments toward fishermen’s safety and pledged to ensure transparent and corruption-free governance.

Reference to Previous Karur Incident

This is not the first time an accident has been associated with one of Vijay’s public events.

In September last year, a tragic incident occurred during Vijay’s rally in Karur district that shocked the nation. The event took place at Velusamypuram on the Karur–Erode highway during his “Velicham Veliyeru” campaign meeting.

According to district authorities, the situation turned chaotic when thousands of supporters gathered near the stage barricades to catch a glimpse of the actor. The crowd surge led to a stampede-like situation, causing several people to faint due to suffocation.

The tragedy resulted in the deaths of 41 people, while nearly 100 others were injured.
