Tamil Nadu Reports Bird Flu in Crows Across 14 Districts, Health Advisory Issued

Bird Flu Detected in Crows Across Tamil Nadu

Chennai: Health authorities have confirmed that bird flu has spread across 14 districts in Tamil Nadu, following reports of multiple crow deaths in the state.

The issue first came to attention on January 5, when several crows were found dead in the Adyar area of Chennai. Samples collected from the birds were examined by the National Veterinary Research Institute, which confirmed that the deaths were caused by avian influenza (bird flu).

Following the incident in Chennai, similar crow deaths linked to bird flu have now been reported in several districts, including Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, and Cuddalore, as well as in the neighboring Puducherry region.

Health officials stated that bird flu has so far affected only crows, and there have been no reported infections among other birds or humans.

However, authorities have advised residents to remain cautious. People experiencing symptoms such as fever or flu-like illness are encouraged to visit nearby hospitals and undergo medical testing as a precautionary measure.

Officials also emphasized that monitoring efforts are ongoing to prevent further spread of the disease and to ensure public safety.
