Machilipatnam NTR Circle renamed
Machilipatnam, AP: The naming of NTR Circle in Machilipatnam has sparked a political dispute. Recently, BJP leaders decided to rename the Housing Board roundabout as the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Circle, honoring the former Prime Minister. However, this move has met with strong opposition from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
Krishna district, Machilipatnam, December 8 (Andhra Jyothi): The NTR Circle, a well-known landmark in Machilipatnam, has become the center of a heated debate. BJP officials announced plans to rename the Housing Board roundabout after the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and are preparing to lay the foundation stone for his statue at the site on Monday. The TDP, however, is firmly against the decision.
Dilip Kumar, chairman of Urban Bank, staged a protest at the roundabout. Previously, the Housing Board had passed a municipal resolution officially designating the area as NTR Circle and approving plans to install a statue of NTR there. TDP leaders have questioned the rationale behind renaming the circle after Vajpayee, arguing that it undermines the legacy of NTR. Both local TDP and BJP supporters have been actively protesting, turning the roundabout into a focal point of discussion and debate in Machilipatnam.
