New Delhi, Delhi, India: Malayalam lessons, Ethiopia discussion: A look inside PM Modi and Priyanka Gandhis friendly tea talk
Narendra Modi and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi were seen sharing a warm and friendly exchange during a tea gathering, moments of which were captured on video from the event.
Although much of the Winter Session of Parliament witnessed sharp disagreements between the ruling side and the Opposition over multiple issues, the session concluded on an amicable note. Members of Parliament from various parties came together for the traditional tea meeting hosted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday.
During the gathering, Prime Minister Modi and Priyanka Gandhi engaged in a cordial conversation, as reflected in visuals from the meeting. Gandhi was seated opposite the Prime Minister, alongside Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Priyanka Gandhi on learning Malayalam
Priyanka Gandhi, who represents the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala, shared with the Prime Minister that she is learning Malayalam to better communicate with the people she serves. This information was reported by news agency PTI, citing sources.
The conversation also touched upon the Prime Ministers recent three nation tour of Africa and the Middle East. Priyanka Gandhi asked Modi about his visit, to which he responded that Ethiopia differs greatly from common perceptions in India and is making strong progress on both social and economic fronts, PTI reported.
PMs remark lightens the mood
Prime Minister Modi drew laughter from those present with his light hearted comment about the Winter Session having only 15 sittings.
When Samajwadi Party leader Dharmendra Yadav remarked that it was one of the shortest parliamentary sessions, the Prime Minister humorously replied that it was beneficial for his throat since he did not have to raise his voice for too many days.
The comment reportedly left the room amused.
Several other leaders attended the meeting, including NCP leader Supriya Sule, DMK leader A Raja, and Union ministers Ram Mohan Naidu, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, and Chirag Paswan.
A customary tea meeting is held at the conclusion of every Parliament session. Sharing details on X, Om Birla stated that following the end of the sixth session of the 18th Lok Sabha, a pleasant interaction took place with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders from all political parties.
It is worth noting that the Opposition had skipped this gathering after the conclusion of the Budget Session earlier this year.
The Winter Session of Parliament wrapped up on Friday after spanning 19 days, with sittings totaling 92 hours and 25 minutes. The session recorded a productivity level of 111 percent.
