Google CEO Sundar Pichai Praises India’s Digital Growth at AI Summit

New Delhi, Delhi, India: Google CEO Sundar Pichai expressed deep admiration for the rapid transformation taking place across India. The country is currently hosting the world’s biggest Artificial Intelligence conference. A total of 118 nations are taking part in the India AI Impact Summit, which is being organized at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi.
The summit’s inaugural session on Thursday witnessed participation from several global leaders and prominent figures from the technology sector, who delivered keynote speeches. Speakers highlighted how India is reshaping the digital ecosystem and emerging as a global AI powerhouse.
Sundar Pichai stated that innovation acts as a catalyst for economic progress and that AI infrastructure can benefit people across all sectors. He mentioned that every visit to India leaves him impressed by the remarkable pace of development. Reflecting on his student days, he recalled traveling to IIT Kharagpur through Visakhapatnam. He also revealed that Google is establishing a comprehensive AI hub along the Visakhapatnam coastline.
French President Emmanuel Macron remarked that India has accomplished what many countries could not. He noted that the nation is experiencing a massive digital transformation. In earlier years, opening a bank account in India was challenging, but today it can be done easily through a mobile phone without extensive paperwork. He emphasized that India has provided digital identity coverage to its 140 crore citizens. Over 20 billion digital transactions are conducted monthly, and around 500 million individuals have been issued digital health identification numbers. Macron stressed the need for global cooperation in advancing innovation.
Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran described it as a privilege to attend the AI Summit. He pointed out that India possesses the largest digital identity system in the world, covering 140 crore people, and accounts for nearly half of global digital transactions. He credited the Prime Minister’s vision for steering India toward becoming an AI hub. Initiatives such as Semicon India and the India AI Mission are accelerating technological growth. He further stated that India is making significant progress in AI skill development and emphasized that artificial intelligence is not imaginary but a tangible reality.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei observed that AI has progressed rapidly over the past decade. He predicted that AI models will soon be capable of performing even the most complex tasks currently handled by humans. While acknowledging the immense opportunities AI offers, he also cautioned about the challenges it presents. According to him, India will play a crucial role in navigating and addressing these challenges.
