Port Blair Renamed: The Indian government has renamed Port Blair, the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, to "Shri Vijaypuram."

Announcement: Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the change, stating that the name Port Blair reflected colonial past, while Shri Vijaypuram symbolizes independence and the region's special role.

Historical Significance: Amit Shah highlighted the strategic and historical importance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, noting that it was a naval base for the Cholas and the place where Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose first hoisted the Tricolor.

Recent Changes: In July, the President's House renamed 'Darbari Hall' and 'Ashoka Hall' to 'Republic Hall' and 'Ashoka Mandapam,' reflecting Indian cultural values.
