Tragedy in Pune: Bridge Collapses, 4 Dead, 51 Injured
A tragic accident occurred in Pune's Talegaon area when an old bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed on June 15. Around 125 tourists had gathered on the dilapidated bridge near Kundmala to watch the overflowing river when it gave way, causing many to fall into the water. Four people died, and 51 were seriously injured; six remain in critical condition.
Despite traffic being previously suspended on the unsafe structure, the crowd assembled due to the heavy flooding. Local authorities, villagers, and NDRF personnel swiftly initiated rescue operations following the collapse. Rescue teams retrieved two bodies trapped beneath the collapsed structure during the search operation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis conveyed their condolences to the bereaved families. CM Fadnavis, who is actively overseeing the situation, has announced financial aid of ₹5 lakh for the kin of the deceased. Rescue operations have now concluded.
