Indian Markets Rally on US-Iran Ceasefire Hopes
New Delhi: Indian equity markets witnessed a strong rebound on Monday, closing with significant gains amid rising expectations of a potential ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran.
After opening on a weak note, the markets reversed early losses and moved into positive territory by mid-session. The recovery was largely driven by reports suggesting that both nations are considering proposals for a ceasefire, boosting global investor confidence.
The benchmark BSE Sensex surged by 787.30 points to settle at 74,106.85, while the broader NSE Nifty advanced 255.15 points to close at 22,968.25.
Among Sensex constituents, Titan Company, HCL Technologies, Axis Bank, and Tech Mahindra emerged as the top gainers. On the Nifty index, Trent, SBI Life Insurance, and Adani Enterprises led the rally.
In global markets, Brent crude oil was trading at around USD 108 per ounce, while gold prices hovered near USD 4,689 per ounce, reflecting ongoing geopolitical sensitivities.
Market analysts noted that easing geopolitical tensions, particularly in West Asia, played a key role in improving investor sentiment and driving the day’s rally.
