Why Were TMC MPs Detained After Protesting ED Raids Outside Amit Shah Office?

Protest Outside Amit Shah Office: TMC MPs Detained During Demonstration

New Delhi, India: Members of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress held a demonstration outside the office of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday morning. During the protest, they shouted slogans targeting the Home Minister. Police personnel responded quickly and attempted to clear the area.

Senior leaders of the Trinamool Congress gathered outside Amit Shah’s office in New Delhi to oppose the Enforcement Directorate raids carried out in Kolkata. TMC MPs including Derek O’Brien, Shatabdi Roy, Mahua Moitra, Kirti Azad, and others participated in the protest on Friday morning. As they raised slogans criticizing Amit Shah, police officers moved in to stop the demonstration.

Tensions escalated when a confrontation broke out between the protesting MPs and the police. After considerable effort, the police detained the leaders and escorted them to Parliament Street Police Station.

Mamata Banerjee Reacts Strongly to ED Searches

On Thursday, the Enforcement Directorate carried out search operations at the home of Prateek Jain, head of political consultancy firm IPAC. During the raid, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited his residence in Kolkata and openly condemned the actions of the ED.

Speaking to the media, Mamata Banerjee said that raids were conducted at the residence of their party’s IT cell head and that files and hard disks linked to the Trinamool Congress were seized. She claimed the confiscated materials contained sensitive information related to the party’s candidates for upcoming assembly elections and stated that she retrieved those documents.

Questioning the authority of the agency, she asked whether the ED had the right to seize party-related documents. She further alleged that under the pretext of electoral roll revision, nearly five lakh voter names had already been removed, accusing authorities of acting deliberately as elections approach.

Trinamool Congress leaders have alleged that the central government is misusing the ED as a political tool. Strong criticism against the Centre has also surfaced across social media platforms.
