Mohammed Shami celebrating wicket in IPL 2026 vs Delhi Capitals
Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami delivered a remarkable performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 season, achieving a rare milestone in the tournament’s history.
Shami became the first bowler in the 19-year history of the IPL to claim five wickets on the very first ball of an innings, setting a unique record. This achievement came during the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals held at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
In the match, Shami dismissed KL Rahul on the opening delivery, marking the fifth instance in his IPL career where he struck on the first ball. Previously, several bowlers had achieved this feat only three times each, making Shami’s record stand out significantly.
Despite his early breakthrough, Lucknow Super Giants were restricted to 141 runs in 18.4 overs. Delhi Capitals successfully chased the target, securing a six-wicket victory in 17.1 overs.
The chase was anchored by impressive unbeaten innings from Sameer Rizvi, who scored 70 runs, and Tristan Stubbs, who contributed 39 runs. For Lucknow, Princy Yadav picked up two wickets, while Shami and Mohsin Khan claimed one wicket each.
Shami, who made his IPL debut in 2013, has now played over 120 matches in the league, taking more than 130 wickets with a consistent bowling economy. His latest achievement further strengthens his reputation as one of India’s most reliable pace bowlers in T20 cricket.
