Rohit Sharma Captaincy Exit: Former Cricketer Makes Explosive Claims
The removal of Rohit Sharma from the Indian team captaincy has once again become a major talking point. Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwari has made striking remarks, suggesting that head coach Gautam Gambhir played a key role in Rohit losing the leadership position.
The debate surrounding Rohit Sharma’s captaincy exit has intensified despite India lifting the ICC Champions Trophy. His removal as ODI captain has triggered widespread discussions across the cricketing fraternity. It is being alleged that Gambhir’s influence contributed to the decision, which was officially announced by chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Supporting this claim, Manoj Tiwari stated that there may be truth behind such reports.
Speaking to a sports channel on Friday, Tiwari said he was unsure of the exact reason behind Rohit Sharma’s dismissal as captain. However, he pointed out that Ajit Agarkar is known for his firm nature and willingness to take bold calls. Tiwari added that while Agarkar publicly communicates such decisions, many discussions and evaluations often take place internally. According to him, Gambhir’s feedback would have carried significant weight, and such a major leadership change would not have been finalized without the head coach’s involvement.
Using a strong analogy, Tiwari remarked that when pressure is applied from behind the scenes, the outcome may appear to be someone else’s decision. He expressed confusion over why a captain who led India to victories in both the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy was replaced. Tiwari emphasized that questioning the capability of a player who has registered three double centuries and consistently put the team ahead of personal milestones is unjustified.
Tiwari further revealed that such management decisions have left him deeply disappointed with the Board of Control for Cricket in India. He added that frequent leadership changes and questionable calls have diminished his interest in watching ODI cricket altogether.
