Cherlapalli, Secunderabad, Hyderabad: A total of 74 express and passenger trains are operating every day from the Cherlapalli railway terminal, according to information released by the Ministry of Railways. The Cherlapalli terminal was developed with an investment of Rs 430 crore. At present, only a single MMTS service connects Cherlapalli station to different areas of the city, prompting daily commuters to demand additional train services.
Hyderabad: Cherlapalli Terminal currently handles 74 express and passenger trains each day, serving over 26,000 travelers. Built at a cost of Rs 430 crore, the terminal was officially opened on January 6 this year. Following the ongoing redevelopment of the Secunderabad and Hyderabad (Nampally) railway stations, several express services have been shifted to operate from Cherlapalli terminal.
In the early days, the terminal generated a daily revenue of around Rs 55,000, which has now surged to nearly Rs 70 lakh. Ticket sales have also risen significantly, increasing from an initial 372 tickets per day to an average of about 8,000 tickets issued daily. In terms of parcel operations, approximately 110 tonnes of goods are transported each day, generating earnings of Rs 5.85 lakh. Railway officials estimate that the terminal could produce annual revenue close to Rs 300 crore.
Despite being equipped with modern infrastructure and advanced facilities, many services at the new terminal are not fully accessible to passengers due to staff shortages. Additionally, with only one MMTS service currently running from Cherlapalli to various city locations, passengers continue to press for the introduction of more commuter train services.
