Central Government's Ambitious Rooftop Solar Power Scheme 'PM-Surya Ghar The Union Cabinet approved the Muft Bijli Yojana. The Cabinet met on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister. Under this scheme which will be implemented with Rs.75,021 crores, up to 300 units of electricity will be supplied free of cost to crores of families across the country every month. Union Minister Anurag Thakur informed that a subsidy of up to Rs.78,000 will be given to the beneficiaries for the installation of solar panels on the houses.

Prime Minister Modi launched the Rooftop solar power scheme on February 13 this year. As part of the implementation of the scheme, the central government will provide 60 percent financial assistance for setting up a 2-kilowatt solar power system. Additional financial assistance will be provided for setting up a 2 KW to 3 KW solar power system. A limit of 3 kilowatts has been imposed. By 2025, a target has been set to install rooftop solar systems in all central government offices. A 3-kilowatt solar power system will generate more than 300 units of electricity per month.300 units can be used for free and the remaining electricity can be sold to discoms to generate revenue. PM-Suryaghar: To install a solar power system under Muft Bijli Yojana, apply through https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in website to get a subsidy. Center estimates that 17 lakh new jobs will be made available through this scheme.
