US lifts sanctions on Iranian oil shipments
Washington DC, USA: Amid growing concerns over global fuel availability during ongoing geopolitical tensions, the United States has announced a significant policy move to ease pressure on oil supply chains. The administration has decided to lift certain sanctions on Iranian oil shipments that are currently stranded at sea.
The decision includes granting a 30-day waiver to facilitate the sale of this oil in international markets. The announcement was made by US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant, who stated that the move is intended to stabilize global energy supply and address market uncertainties.
According to officials, the exemption will allow approximately 140 million barrels of Iranian crude oil to enter the global market. However, authorities clarified that the waiver strictly applies only to oil that has already been produced and remains stranded offshore. It does not permit Iran to increase fresh exports beyond the existing stock.
Responding to the development, Iran indicated that it currently does not possess additional crude oil reserves ready for immediate export. A spokesperson from Iran’s Ministry of Energy, speaking via social platform X, suggested that the US announcement was primarily aimed at calming international concerns regarding fuel shortages rather than signaling a broader policy shift.
The temporary measure is being viewed as a strategic step to maintain stability in global oil markets amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainties.
